Sealants make up a tiny fraction of a building’s exterior, yet they handle most of its water defense. Industry estimates attribute roughly 90% of water intrusion to about 1% of the exterior surface, and joints sit squarely in that 1%.
Once a sealant bead cracks, separates, or hardens, moisture moves into wall cavities, structural steel, and concrete. The damage shows up as interior stains, mold growth, corroded reinforcement, and rising energy bills as conditioned air escapes. Catching joint failure early keeps small fixes from turning into major restoration work.
